Avoidance. One of mankind’s most common traits. Writer’s know how to use it well. It shows up in self talk and conversations under the guise of “Maybe” and “Hopefully”. They are our way of getting around our personal writing goals.
“Hopefully I’ll get to writing today.”
“Maybe if everything goes well I’ll write.”
You need to remove “maybes” and “hopefullys” from your vocabulary. Hopefully? No hopefully about it. Replace it with, “I will write ‘?’ today”. Fill in the ? with whatever amount you need to get done today to make your goal for the week.
“Hopefullys” and “maybes” leave it open to “not likely”. It is time to leave them behind in the dust. Commit to your goal. Hold yourself accountable. Get up earlier or go to bed later. No excuses. We all have lives outside of our writing. Suck it up and write.
The whole idea is not to treat a BIW week like any other week. Otherwise, what is the point? So… what are you waiting for? Put your butt in the chair, your hands on the keyboard and get typing.
