I can really appreciate accent patterns. There is something to be said for being a minimalist. Accent patterns are visually stimulating without being over powering and they give a little hint of excitement below the surface. What do I consider an accent pattern? Anything that provides a touch of contrast on an otherwise solid shade of clothing but is not a part of the fabric. Like the collar on this ASOS Curve Dress:
Clothing with accent patterns is a fun place to start to experiment with mixing patterns before you move up to the big leagues of pattern mixing. In this case, a polka dot wristlet by Marc Jacobs in matching black and white. The Delman Gia Wedge Sandal are from Zappos. The red watch ring is from ASOS.
Other great accent patterns I love are the ones you find on the folded cuffs on a pair of jeans, the piping on a shirt, the lining or cuffs of a blazer; or a personal favorite, the inside of a handbag. They are subtle, classic, and completely non-threatening to those afraid of all over pattern. Unfortunately, they are extremely hard to find so take advantage of them when you do.
