Spring Break with Ulla Popken
Babe Hope from Ulla Popken sent me two pieces from the Ulla Popken spring line back and February and I finally had a chance to wear them during spring break when the weather warmed up a little bit. I was dressing for a comfortable one hour drive and shopping.
I wore the Open Front Slub Yarn Cardigan ($59) and Vented Stretch Capri Pants ($49) from Ulla Popken with my knitted tank from Cotton Ginny (out of business), and my new Natural Sport sneakers from Naturalizer. I am carrying a coral trench from Penningtons (read the review for that here). And the coconut necklace is from eBay.
I wore both pieces all day and was incredibly comfortable. I did not even spill anything on the white pants when we went out to eat.
The Cardigan
The material is light weight and see through when held up to the light but it was surprising heavy enough to keep me from getting chilled when the sun went behind the clouds.
I was impressed with how well this cardigan washed and dried with my other items. With such light fabric I was actually expecting to find a shift in the material when it came out of the dryer but it still looked perfectly aligned.
I think the mini gathers at the shoulder are really cute.
You cannot tell from the OOTD shot but the cardigan has a nice variegated pattern of beige and ivory.
Overall I really like the cardigan and can see it being a staple for the spring and summer when I cannot make up my mind if I am hot or cold.
The Pants
The white capri pants are also lightweight and are actually a bit thinner than I would have liked. I do not like to be able to see my flesh through my pants. I realize they are lightweight for summer but this is just a bit too lightweight for white for me.
The cotton also was surprisingly rough to touch for $50 cotton (97% cotton/3% spandex) even after washing. They are comfortable to wear with the elastic waist and pockets are a definite plus. I like how the elastic waist does not go all the way around and is finished.
These white cotton pants were washed and dried with my regular whites and I am disappointed how they came out of the dryer completely wrinkled — they will definitely need a pass with the iron before I can wear them again.
Overall the pants were a comfortable (yeah spandex) fit and wear nicely throughout the day. They are still waiting to be pressed.
