We have a pair of Sylvania walkie talkies we bought years ago as a means of talking between floors instead of yelling up and down the stairs. We used them for a week or two then they sat in a drawer. We finally get to put them to good use.
Because Jeff cannot see completely around and behind the trailer I need to stand at the back and give directions (my favorite thing). We also use them to properly position the truck to hook it up to the hitch and again while testing signal and brake lights.
The walkie talkies have helped a great deal although we do need to work on our communication skills a little bit. To make things easier we have instituted using “Passenger” and “Driver Side” over “left” and “right”. This is definitely helpful but sometimes I forget.
During this learning process I’ve also learned that my coordination skills are not up to snuff as I need to work on pressing the button and talking at the same time (I can’t pat my head and rub my tummy at the same time either). It seems Jeff only gets half my my directions at times. Kind of like when we don’t use walkies. Budda-boom!
Oh, and for some reason he doesn’t like it when I say, “Stop, stop, stop!” in succession. Apparently one “stop” is enough and sounds less life threatening. I’m working on it.
The communication process with the walkie talkies has been fun though!
This reminds me I need to get some more batteries.
