The Pandemic Haircut

Women of all walks of life around the globe have been cutting their own hair since the Covid-19 pandemic started. I was actually in the process of growing out my hair and had the beginnings of a nice bob going on. I can’t remember at what point my frustration won out but it happened pretty quickly when the husband’s clippers came out. Once the ZHHHHHH began I was committed.

I have probably shaved it about five times since then. The first few times took longer than you would think (mostly because of the bloody mess) but for the most part I am done in about fifteen minutes. I may have to do a few touch-ups a day or so later for wayward hairs.

From Instagram, July 2020.

I make less of a mess of my bathroom than the first few times and I think I have what I want dialed in. Does it look as good as if my stylist did it? No, of course not but it’s good enough that I am not cringing every time I pass a mirror. And it has been a blessing in this hot and sticky weather.

Styling-wise, after a shower it takes me less than five minutes to dry and style. I use a dab of Redken Velvet Gelatine 07 (get from Amazon.ca or Amazon.com) before I blow it out and a touch of American Crew pomade (get it from Amazon.ca or Amazon.com) (I’ve had this forever) when I’m done. And the best part? I wake up the next morning and my hair looks basically the same.

I have no shaver’s remorse — I still miss my stylist though. What have you done with your hair during the pandemic?
