Dirty Dozen Friday Writing Prompt

Set your timer and for the next fifteen minutes and write something using these twelve words. The order of the words can be switched around as necessary. The choice of whether you write fiction or non-fiction is up to you. And don’t use all the words in the first paragraph.

  1. Arriving early just as she had planned, she leaned against the BMW and crossed her arms. Her long auburn hair was braided and hung over her left shoulder. With a flick of her head she swung her braid over her shoulder. She was dressed casually in a long green cotton skirt and a snug white tank top. Brown strappy sandals showed off her freshly painted red toe nails. As casual as her attire was, her makeup was not. Her porcelain white skin was flawless, hazel eyes rimmed with a smoky charcoal color and her lips covered in a coral shade of lipstick.
    She gaze wandered off beyond the pier. It was a beautiful crisp day. The sky brilliantly blue so much so that the skyline almost disappeared into the ocean. A slight breeze picked up and the palm trees swayed ever so gently along the shore. Turning her attention back to the parking lot and the dock she noticed more people were coming in. Anxious wives with small children in tow. Excited children running ahead of their mothers. A smile on the faces of all, and many carrying an assortment of balloons, banners, flowers, and cameras at the ready.
    She knew that as happy as they all were now that the past nine months had been a rough time. They all had been separated from their loved ones. Today, though, the waiting was over, the timer was ticking its way to its end. The Navy was returning her husband of 3 years home to her. With that final thought she pushed herself off of her car with renewed vitality and headed to join the group on the dock.
